Hello & Welcome to the Forum!
Not everyone finds the eau d'loco enjoyable.
I am in that camp. I do not use smoke fluid for anything but cleaning wheels.
I don't believe that you have a faulty smoke unit, it is possible, but I suspect
that you'll have to try several brands of smoke fluid to find one that is acceptable to your nose
Yes, you could replace the smoke unit and try it again to see if the smell is acceptable.
