Large Lionel Collection
« on: August 20, 2016, 04:47:16 pm »
Hello Folks,

I come to you all today with a bit of an inquiry. Recently, my grandfather passed away, he had amassed a collection of model trains over the years and thoroughly enjoyed the hobby. I can recall going to the train shop in his back yard and marevling as the trains whizzed around the track when I was quite young. My family is now left with his estate apart of which is his train collection. Fortunately we also have a written inventory that a fellow model rail roader compiled with my grandfather some years back. Unfortunately his friend has now passed as well. Nothing has been done with the collection since the inventory was taken.

I come to you all today asking for some assistance, I am not attempting to sell the collection here on the forum but rather need some help in coming up with a reasonable number to sell the collection for. We will sell the collection as a lot, and while it will be unlikely to bring as much as selling everything individually none of my family members have the time to carry out a sale little by little. Is there some member here who would be willing to provide us with a very rough appraisal of what the collection is worth based on the written inventory we have? If so I can provide you with the aforementioned inventory.

I am most appreciative!

Thanks!

Sent you a personal message offering my assistance (rather than post my email address here for spambots to harvest).

Hello and Welcome to the Forum!
Sadly your situation is all too common an occurrence, a train hobbyist passes on leaving the family to deal with the trains.
You are fortunate that an inventory was taken of your Grandfathers Trains and will help with the liquidation.
If you would email me a copy of your list, I'll look over it, do some checking and give you an appraisal and some options for disposal of the trains.
My email is listed on my profile.

Happy Rails!
