Ahhh, I just killed my Polar Exress locomotive!
« on: January 03, 2015, 01:13:55 pm »
I tried installing a Dan's Drumheads firebox glow circuit LED.  At first the loco ran but it sounded different and the reverse function wouldn't work.  Then it just stopped and the green transformer light started to blink.  I'm going to disconnect the circuit and see if the basic function return.  Anyone successfully installed the firebox LE?D?  Thanks.

The installation seems to be straightforward, wiring the LED circuit in parallel with the headlamp. Did you follow the instructions properly, and did you check for any shorted wires, or other wiring problems when re assembling the shell?

Yesterday I took the loco apart again and checked everything.  It seems the reverse issue was caused when I inadvertently moved the reverse switch when the shell was off.  I decided to move the ground wire to the contact on top of the rear weight (away from the circuit board).  Now the LED works and the locomotive seems to be running fine.  I am having trouble getting the rear two screws to catch their threads in the shell though.  Any suggestions?  Thanks again.

Not knowing exactly which engine you have, as there are many Polar Express locomotives, it sounds like the shell is not seating properly on the chassis. There should be no issue reinstalling the mounting screws. Make sure everything is in place properly, and no wires are caught between the shell and chassis.
